Sept 30 2007

We have just finished 6 days with John, Benny, Jimmy and Bruno from the US. Whilst catching was slow for the whole fleet, we managed to see 6 fish, but only 2 lazy bites. But if you are not catching fish it is great to be calm!!! First day was normal 20 knots, then we had 10-15 for the rest of the week.

On Wednesday afternoon we ran out wide to where my buddy Dan on the Moana was mugging up the yellowfin and bigeye tunas. We got about 10 up to 70lbs, and even got a few on the popper rod. When you had a fish up at the boat, there were 20 more the same size waiting for something to eat!!

Even though the fishing for the entire fleet has been slow, there have been some ENORMOUS fish seen. Jim on the Reel Chase had one on for a while earlier in the week that he said was one of the biggest he has seen up here. Dan on the Moana trolling lures back in from out wide with the tunas had an absolute animal climb on and they broke the fish off on the leader. This fish was probably the biggest anyone has heard of up here in 40 years. And yesterday off Myrmidon Reef off Townsville a local boat fought a big fish for 4 hours that came up dead, it was weighed this morning and went 1109lbs!!!

With the wind up for a few days, and the warm body of water 40 miles offshore expected to arrive at the edge in the next 2-3 days, everyone is ready for the fishing to let loose!!

We are back into it on Wednesday solid till Nov 2nd.

Check our open dates to come down for Nov and Dec, with a late start, it should go well into Dec this year.
