The continued wanderings of Capt Tim

Its has been a pretty busy couple of months, and lots of miles and countries visited for Capt Tim.

I flew into Panama and got back onboard the 61′ Garlington “AMBUSH” to run the boat again for the same family as a couple of years ago when I worked for them in the Carribean.

We fished Pinas Bay in Panama and didn’t have much success on the marlin, the fishing was slow and then the water rolled and turned cold and green, so we loaded the boat up and came thru the Panama Canal.

If you have never done it, and get the opportunity, go and either see the gravity fed locks in action, or even better go through on a boat, the Panama Canal is one of the most amazing engineering feats of our time !!!.

After a night on the Atlantic side of the canal, the next day we ran to San Andreas, then overnight to Jamaica, and onto Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic for the season here. I was here last year, and we experienced consistent marlin fishing, with lots of blue and white marlin on light tackle.

I went up to Florida in mid February for the Miami Boat Show, and the Billfish Foundation awards ceremony, where I received the award for the Captain tagging the most black marlin in the Pacific Ocean in 2012, and also one of my anglers David, received the award for tagging the most blacks in the Pacific as well, most of which were tagged off Townsville and Cairns this last season. It was a great night with friends from all over the world in attendance. I must also say thanks to Steve and Carl, who were recognised for their hard work as one of the best crews on the planet.

The Miami Boat Show was again like old home week, with a wonderful time catching up with all my friends in the industry in attendance, an also checking out what a lot of my sponsors and supporters had new. These include Maui Jim Sunglasses, Tracy Melton from Melton Tackle, Roddy Hays from Legend Lures, all the gang at the Billfish Foundation, FishTrack, Lees Tackle, Rods by Dru, Erik at Lindgren Pitman who make all out leader for Cairns. I also caught up with RJ Boyle, Brandon, and all my great friends up in Palm Beach, Stuart and Jupiter !!

Back down in the DR, the fishing has not really started yet out of Cap Cana, and won’t really get going untill the end of March, so we have been fishing the FADS to the east of Casa De Campo, which is a 50 mile run for us, and 25 miles from Casa De Campo.

The fishing has been incredible again this year, and for 2014, we will be based out of Casa De Campo for Feb and March and into April before moving over to Cap Cana, where we will be there until mid July.

The days we have fished have been pretty good, with us seeing up to 7 fish a day. last weekend we had a slower day on Saturday with 1 from 2 blue marlin, but made up for it on Sunday going 5 from 6 blues by 2 pm when we had to head back for the boss to catch his plane.

The next couple of weeks will be very busy for us, with both charters and the boss coming in to fish the next moon. I have a couple of days out of Cap Cana early in the week, then we are heading down to fish for the blue marlin for 8 days with the boss and one of my clients, and then I am available from the 21st to the 31 March.

After that we are going to Puerto Rico for a week or two to get a few things on the boat sorted , and then back to Cap Cana for the white and blue marlin season until early July.

As for Australia , the TRADITION is at home at the Gold Coast City Marina and is hiding from all of the bad weather that they have had this year !!! The boys are keeping an eye on her and a few little projects are being taken care of prior to my return.

Our light tackle season in August and into September is filling up fast, and after last season, we are keen to get back and rack up some numbers of little black marlin on fly and light tackle. So far we have 3 weeks of flyfishing for little black marlin, which will be both a lot of fun , and an exciting challenge for both anglers and crew !!!

The heavy tackle black marlin season on the GBR, is going to be another big one for us, we have the best crew, a great boat, and an incredible fishery. Last season we ended up catching the biggest fish of the season for the 2nd year in a row, with an incredible fish of 1220 lbs for Stetson Gath from the USA, which was also the 2nd largest black marlin ever caught on a lure. A truly great effort by Stetson and the boys on the deck !!!!

Our season is looking to be another big one, with many of our regular clients already rebooked , as well as a couple of new clients excited about their first trip to the Reef. I have some great openings still available, as well as some special deals in September and December.
